A Pharmacy Lead Technician shall work under the direction of the Pharmacist to promote and maintain good interpersonal and interdepartmental relationships. A Lead Technician shall master various pharmacy responsibilities in order to assist in training Pharmacy Technicians. The Lead Technician shall be trained in multiple functions within the scope of their job description. It is the responsibility of the Pharmacist in Charge to ensure that the Lead Technician maintains adequate skill levels for each of these functions through ongoing supervision, mentoring, monitoring and evaluation of practice based operational activities.

  • Must be flexible and be able to work different schedules to meet client and pharmacy needs.
  • Possess detailed knowledge of prescription drugs and laws governing prescription drugs.
  • Demonstrate Competent working knowledge of participating third party insurance plans.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of the Pharmacy Technician duties and scopes of responsibility.
  • Be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be organized and be able to prioritize tasks.
  • PC knowledge and general navigation.
  • Operate in a manner consistent with professional, ethical, and legal standards of proper pharmacy practice.
  • Establish an expertise in the drug therapies serviced within the pharmacy to help provide guidance, mentoring and back up for the other technicians.
  • Assist the pharmacy manager with the assignment of work, training, and mentoring.
  • Mentor staff by answering questions and providing guidance on challenging or escalated issues.
  • Coordinate the pharmacy staff schedule and assist with personnel monitoring and performance evaluations.
  • Excel at customer service and assistance in addition to maintaining relationships with related covered entities.
  • Fill new medications orders, refills, and renewals for pharmacy clients.
  • Credit Client medications that are not picked up within 10 days.
  • Restock pharmacy shelves when medications are received from the wholesaler.
  • Check for outdated medications on a monthly basis (30 days).
  • Prepare prescriptions for the pharmacist to check.
  • Prepare any packages that will be mailed to patients.
  • Assist pharmacists in training new pharmacy technicians and cross training other technicians.
  • Make recommendations to the pharmacist regarding methods and or procedures that can be improved.
  • Ability to help others whenever and wherever there is a backlog.
  • Be accurate, proficient, timely, knowledgeable, thorough, and complete in one’s work.
  • Have a willingness to learn new responsibilities and tasks.
  • Deliver medication in a reasonable walking distance in an emergency situation.
  • Effectively prioritize tasks and organize workflow to increase efficiency and maximize fulfillment.
  • Maintain patient service through accurately and efficiently performing prescription entry and fulfillment.
  • Perform data entry of prescription orders including calculation of dosing, assignment of directions and accurate interpretation of prescription requirements.
  • Manage, organize and maintain drug and supply inventories.
  • Effectively resolve third-party rejection and billing issues and prepare the pharmacy for third-party/Government audits.
  • Properly clean and maintain the pharmacy department.
  • Complete new and updated patient profiles, including lists of all patient medications, allergies, and other comorbidities.
  • Assist the pharmacist with checking in and pricing drug orders, third party transactions and relevant paperwork
  • Provide follow-up on the completion of tasks and assignments designated to the other technicians.

Senior Pharmacy Technicians in California must:

  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Be licensed/registered as a pharmacy technician with the state of California
  • Be certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Health Career Association (NHA)
  • Preferred: Has one year of experience as a pharmacy Technician.

Pay: $22.50 to $28.00 per hour, depending on experience

Schedule: Monday – Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
